The martinete is a bird of the heron family with a size of about 60-65 centimeters, with nocturnal habits, except during the breeding season.
The plumage of its underparts is greyish white, while the face, neck and belly are usually white. The rear part of a darker tone, and the wings of gray color.
It predominates in wetland areas, as well as on riverbanks where marsh vegetation abounds.
